The Arizona Diamondbacks had the worst bullpen in baseball last year, and now this year they have a much improved ‘pen that has the third most saves in baseball.
They further bolstered their relief core by trading for Oakland reliever Brad Ziegler. They surrendered 1B/OF Brandon Allen and AAA pitcher Jordan Norberto.
Ziegler will fit in at the back end of Arizona’s bullpen with David Hernandez and JJ Putz.
Allen has been dealt now twice for useful relievers having been dealt for Tony Pena. Norberto pitched for the Snakes last year and has a 4.25 ERA in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
The aforementioned Brandon Allen is somewhat of an alternate to Lars Anderson, the Red Sox AAA first baseman who was rumored to be going to Oakland in a possible Rich Harden deal, but that fell through because of medical reasons.
