The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking up at the San Francisco Giants in the standings. And they needed a piece to close the gap.
That piece is Jason Marquis.
The Diamondbacks received the 32-year-old righty from the Washington Nationals for A-ball shortstop Zach Walters.
Marquis had an 8-5 record with a 3.95 ERA in 20 starts. He should upgrade an already solid Diamondbacks rotation headlined by Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson. Marquis also goes back to the NL West where he tied a career high with 15 wins in 2009.
Walters was a ninth round pick of Arizona’s in last year’s draft. He was hitting .302 for South Bend.
