• Kansas City– The Royals are chock full of young talent with Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Alcedis Escobar and All-Star Aaron Crow leading a very exciting group of young guys, while more top prospects like Lorenzo Cain hone their skills in the minors. The Royals are not composed only of young guys, but also have their share of veterans as well.
• Possible Scenarios– The Royals could move Melky Cabrera and Jeff Francouer. Both have respectable batting averages, .295 and .269 respectively. Francouer possesses a strong outfield arm and the “Melk Man” has a tendency of being clutch with some memorable walk-off hits for the Yankees in the past couple years. These guys could both be moved to a team like Minnesota or Cleveland. Some of their starting pitchers could also be moved. One of whom, Jeff Francis, has posted 7 quality starts in his last 10 starts. Texas, Boston, Detroit, Minnesota, and Cleveland are all teams that might need a starter, so there won’t be a shortage of teams calling the Royals. Bruce Chen and Kyle Davies are long shots to be dealt, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Designated Hitter Billy Butler could also be dealt. Butler is essentially a very poor man’s Miguel Cabrera. Anaheim could be a strong possibility as is Minnesota, but I doubt they would deal him in division. Matt Treanor and Brayan Pena could be dealt to teams like Boston or San Francisco who could use catchers. Both aren’t spring chickens and don’t figure to be in KC down the road. Mike Avilies could also be an intriguing low-buy pickup for a team like the Yankees who need a player on the left side of the infield.
